Pre-School

Our Pre-school boys and girls continue to learn new skills and experiences through structured play and are also encouraged to participate in games and activities that will begin to prepare them for school.  In this way we hope to foster an enthusiasm for learning that will grow throughout their school life.

This group caters for children in their year before going to school. Our aim is to promote all aspects of child development through play based activities and the continuous provision.  The pre-school group follows the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum Guidance, observing each child and planning activities to further development and skills.

The Pre-School room has different areas of continuous provision with most toys and equipment on low level shelving to enable children to self-select. Practitioners encourage learning through play, allowing children to learn through play is how they learn best and helping them to build self-confidence without forcing them to do things that they don’t wish to. We have a separate dining area for snacks and meal times. Each child is assigned a cohort of keyworkers who will monitor and encourage and record their development. Fresh air and exercise are provided during daily outdoor play in their own playground, as well as the nursery allotment area or walks in the local environment. We are very lucky to have our own Early Years Professional who works with the children in their Pre-School year, focusing on ICT, Mathematics and Writing. We have weekly visits and activities for our
Pre-Schoolers which include Acrotots with Sandersons and Football. We also visit Marsden grange care home where we learn and interact with the older generations.
